Item availability controls (Unavailable, off the website, Retired)
Gray out an item or one unit, take the listing off your website, or retire it, straight from the item's Details page.
Where to find it
Fleet → open an item → Details → the status badge next to the item name, or the status menu on a unit
The Details page for an item has quick controls to stop customers from booking it, without opening the editor. You can do it for the whole item or for a single unit.
Where to find it
Fleet → open an item → Details.
- Whole item: click the status badge next to the item's name. (Bundles don't have this control.)
- One unit: each unit in the list has its own status menu.
How it works
Both menus offer the same three choices:
- Available — the item or unit can be booked again.
- Unavailable → — opens a second step with two options:
- Gray out (stays on your site) — customers still see the listing, but can't book it. You confirm with Mark unavailable. On the item menu this applies to every unit ("Unavailable — all 3 units"); on a unit menu it applies to that unit.
- Take listing off website — hides the whole listing from your site, all units included, so renters don't see it at all. You confirm with Take it off the website.
- Retired… — for gear you are done with.
- On the item menu, Retire & archive retires the item and all its units and archives it, so it leaves your active Fleet list. You can restore it later from the Archived view on the Fleet page.
- On a unit menu, Retire unit makes that unit unbookable for good. If it is the last active unit, the confirmation reads "Retire the last active unit?" and the whole item is archived. A retired unit can be brought back later from the unit's own page.
Example
A kayak is waiting on a replacement part for a week. On the kayak's unit menu you choose Unavailable → Gray out (stays on your site). Customers still see the kayak in your fleet, but can't book it. When the part arrives you choose Available.
Good to know
- Switching back to Available makes the item bookable again, but it does not put a listing you took off your website back on it. Turn the item to Live again from its editor (the Live/Draft toggle) — see Publishing an item to your storefront.
- To take a unit out of service for repairs, with dates and a reason, use Put into maintenance instead — see Temporarily hiding an item for service.
- To record a sale, use Marking a unit as sold.
