Sending a customer a payment link
Send a secure payment link by email, text, or both, so a customer can pay without you taking their card over the phone.
Where to find it
Bookings → open a booking → Payment Log card → Charge → choose a timing → method "Send link"
Instead of taking a customer's card number over the phone, you can send them a secure link that lets them pay on their own. It's built on Stripe, the payment processor Renta uses, so the customer enters their card details directly with Stripe rather than reading them to you.
Where to find it
Bookings → open a booking → Payment Log card → Charge button (shown whenever there's a balance due, as long as the booking isn't completed or cancelled) → pick a timing (before pickup, a specific date, or at pickup) → set the method to Send link.
How it works
- The Charge button only appears when the booking has a balance due greater than $0 and isn't already completed or cancelled.
- Once you pick Send link as the method, Renta generates a one-time secure payment link for that amount and delivers it by email, SMS, both, or none (just hand you the link to share yourself).
Example
A customer books over the phone but doesn't want to read their card number aloud. Open the booking, click Charge, choose Send link, and pick email or text — they tap it, enter their card details themselves, and the payment shows up on the booking once it clears.
Good to know
- This is a good alternative to typing a card into the admin booking form yourself.
- SMS delivery only works if text messaging is set up for your business — otherwise stick to email or none.
