Door codes at the kiosk (igloohome)
On a self-serve kiosk, a customer who finishes pick-up taps Unlock your gear and gets a door code for your igloohome smart lock. This covers when a code shows, how long it works, the email copy, practice bookings, and the "see the counter" fallback.
Where to find it
At the kiosk, last screen of a self-serve pick-up → Unlock your gear. Locks are paired at Settings → Integrations → Igloohome → Your locks
When a customer finishes Pick up on a self-serve kiosk, they tap Unlock your gear and the kiosk shows a door code for your igloohome smart lock (igloohome is the smart-lock company Renta connects to). They can let themselves in without a staff member.
Where to find it
- For customers: the last screen of a self-serve pick-up, which says "You're all set" and has an Unlock your gear button.
- For you: set the hand-off to Self-serve at Kiosk → Kiosk configuration → Pick up. Connect igloohome and pair each lock to the equipment it secures at Settings → Integrations → Igloohome, in the Your locks section. See Connecting smart locks (Igloohome).
When a code is shown
A code is only given out after all of these are true, and the server checks each one again when the customer taps: 1. Your gear hand-off is Self-serve. With Staff hands over gear, there is no door code and the customer is told a team member will bring the gear out. 2. The booking is Active and its pickup check-out is complete. The kiosk does both just before this screen. 3. The required details, ID photo, waiver and payment steps are still complete. The deposit check was already done at check-out. 4. The code window has not ended (see below). If it has, the screen says "This booking has ended — please ask staff".
The customer sees the lock's name, the code in large digits, and a line such as "Works Mon, Oct 5, 9:00 AM – Tue, Oct 6, 5:00 PM", shown in your business's time zone. A booking with several locks shows one code per lock.
How long a code works
- It starts at the earlier of "now" and the booking's pickup time, so an early arrival can get in.
- It ends one hour after the booking's return time, so the customer can get back in to drop the gear off.
- The times are rounded out to whole hours in the lock's own time zone, and a code cannot last longer than 28 days.
The email copy
The kiosk always emails the code to the customer, whatever your Door-code delivery setting says. The email is titled "Your door code for booking [number]" and lists each code and when it works, so the customer still has it at return time. It goes to the email address on the customer's record. If there is none, nothing is sent, and the code is still shown on the kiosk screen.
If staff already made a code that covers this time, or the customer comes back and goes through Pick up again, the same code is shown instead of a second one being made on the lock. The Unlock your gear button can be pressed only once per screen, so a customer who leaves that screen should use the emailed code.
Practice bookings never get real codes
A practice booking never creates a real code, because it would open a real lock. A practice customer, including in Try kiosk, ends at "Your gear is ready — see the counter."
The "see the counter" fallbacks
- "Your gear is ready — see the counter." No lock is paired to that equipment, igloohome is not connected, or it is a practice booking.
- "Some doors couldn't get a code — please see the counter for those." A booking with several locks where some locks failed. The other codes still show.
- "We couldn't create your door code — please ask staff", then "Need a hand? Please see the counter." The code could not be made for any lock.
- Any other refusal, such as "Finish your pick-up first", shows a short message followed by "Need a hand? Please see the counter."
Good to know
- The kiosk allows 10 door-code requests per booking in 5 minutes.
- The final screen goes back to the home screen after 60 seconds or when the customer presses Done.
- Staff can also make a code from the booking's Smart lock door code card. This article covers only the kiosk.
