Stripe payouts: when money arrives and where to see it
Customer payments go into your own Stripe account and Stripe pays them out to your bank, so Renta shows you whether payouts are switched on and opens Stripe for the rest.
Where to find it
Settings → Stripe → Payouts status and Open Stripe Dashboard
Renta never holds your money. When a customer pays, the charge is made inside your own Stripe account, and Stripe then moves the money from your Stripe balance to your bank account. This page explains what you can see in Renta and where to look for the rest.
Where to find it
Click Settings, then Stripe. On the Live Stripe card, look at the Payouts box and the Open Stripe Dashboard link. Real customer money only flows through Live Stripe. See Connecting Stripe to accept payments.
What Renta shows you
- Payouts: On or Pending on each Stripe card. On means Stripe has enabled payouts from your Stripe balance to your bank account. Pending means Stripe is still waiting on something from you. Click Open Stripe Dashboard (it appears once the card says Connected) and finish what Stripe asks for there. Open onboarding only appears while Charges is still Pending.
- Open Stripe Dashboard on a card that says Connected. It opens your Stripe dashboard in a new tab through a one-time sign-in link, so you do not need to log in again. The button only appears once the card says Connected.
- Platform Fees card on the same page, showing what Renta charges on top of each booking. On the standard plan the card says "You keep 100% of the booking — renters pay the platform fee at checkout." See Renta's 2.5% platform fee.
When does money arrive?
Renta does not set, change or display your payout schedule. How quickly Stripe pays you, which bank account it pays into, and the list of past payouts are all managed in Stripe. Open Open Stripe Dashboard and look in Stripe's payouts section for your schedule and history.
A few things in Renta change what is waiting to be paid out:
- Practice bookings run in Stripe's test mode on your Demo Stripe connection, so they never add real money to your balance. See Practice customers.
- Security deposits are placed as a hold on the customer's card, not as a charge. Money only moves if you capture the hold. See Releasing vs. capturing a deposit hold.
- Refunds you issue from a booking are sent back to the customer through your Stripe account. See Refunding or cancelling a booking.
How to check that a payment reached Stripe
1. Open the booking and look at its payment history. See Payment history and signed documents on a booking. 2. For the full picture, including payouts to your bank, open Settings → Stripe → Open Stripe Dashboard. 3. If a customer was charged but the booking never finished, check Disputes & Payment Issues → Payment Issues. See Failed or stuck booking payments.
Good to know
- Both Charges and Payouts need to be On for the money to flow all the way to your bank. If only Charges is On, customers can pay you, but Stripe has not yet enabled sending that money out.
- Stripe is the right place to ask about a payout that looks late or short, because Renta cannot see or change payouts.
