Moving your demo setup into Live
Clone or move the fleet, customers, and templates you built in Demo over to Live, and keep them in sync afterward.
Where to find it
Migration Center (available after you go Live)
Once you go Live, anything you built while testing (rental items, customers, templates) still lives only in Demo mode. The Migration Center is where you bring that setup over so you don't have to rebuild it from scratch.
Where to find it
Open the Migration Center, which becomes available once your account has gone Live.
How it works
The Migration Center has one tab for each kind of data you might want to bring over:
- Categories — the groupings you use to organize your fleet (e.g. "Jet Skis," "Kayaks")
- Items — your actual rental units
- Pickups — pickup/drop-off locations
- Customers — customer records
- Fleet templates — reusable pricing/rate setups
- Maintenance templates — recurring maintenance schedules
- Waiver templates — the liability waiver forms customers sign
For each tab, select the demo records you want to work with, then one of four buttons is available depending on what's already been done with your selection:
- Clone — copies the selected demo records into Live as new, separate records. Only available when none of your selection is already linked to a Live record.
- Move — moves the selected demo records over to Live outright. Also only available when none of your selection is linked yet.
- Push — sends already-linked records' current details forward to their Live counterpart, so the Live copy catches up with changes made in Demo. Available once at least one selected record is linked.
- Unlink — breaks the connection between demo records and their Live copies, so they can be managed independently. Only available when your entire selection is already linked.
For example: if you set up 12 rental items while testing your surf shop in Demo mode and none of them exist in Live yet, you'd select them all and click Clone or Move. If you later update the description on one of those items in Demo, Push sends that update to the already-linked Live copy.
Good to know
- Nothing moves from Demo to Live until you take action in the Migration Center — it's never automatic.
- If you're switching your public website over from an old provider, also check Will my Google ranking survive switching to Renta? so your search traffic isn't affected by the move.
