Common questions

How do I write and publish a blog post?

Open Blog, press + New Post, type a Post title, write in the editor, set the status menu next to Save to Published, and press Save. The post is live as soon as it saves. See Writing and publishing blog posts.

What is the difference between Draft, Scheduled and Published?

Draft is saved but hidden from visitors. Published is live. Scheduled stays hidden until a date and time you choose, then goes live by itself. Only Published posts show on your website.

How do I schedule a post for later?

In the editor set the status menu to Scheduled. A Publish automatically on field appears with tomorrow at 9:00 filled in; change it and press Save. The date must be in the future, otherwise Renta asks you to pick a future date and time. Renta checks for due posts every 15 minutes, so a post can go live a few minutes after the time you picked. The time uses your own device's timezone.

Where do customers read my blog?

Your blog list is at `/blog` on your site and each post is at `/blog/` followed by its web address, on your Renta address or on your own domain if you connected one. Published posts are also listed in your site's sitemap, the file that tells Google which pages exist.

How do I put a Blog link in my website menu?

If your Navigation Bar has Auto-add published pages on, a Blog link is added automatically once you have a published post. Or add your own link to `/blog` under Nav Links. See Navigation bar and footer widgets.

How do I show my latest posts on my homepage?

Add a Blog Posts block to the page: turn Show every post off and set Posts shown to 3 or 4 for a teaser row. Details are in Website widgets — common questions.

Can I design my own blog page?

Yes. In the Site Builder, open the Pages tab, press New Page and give it the web address exactly `blog`; then add a Blog Posts block with Show every post on, and publish it. Renta then uses your page as the blog index, with your own menu, footer and theme, instead of its built-in list.

How do I change a post's web address (slug)?

The address under the title box fills in from your title. Edit it if you like. If you rename a published post's address, Renta saves the old address and sends anyone who uses it to the new one automatically (a permanent redirect), but only while the post is Published. The editor still warns that links may break, so test the old link after renaming. Blog posts are the only place this happens by itself; changing a normal page's address does not add a redirect.

How do I add a picture to a post?

Use Featured image to upload a photo, pick one from Stock Images or your Library, or paste a link. It is shown on the post, on the Blog Posts block's card and as the preview picture when someone shares the link. The text editor can also add pictures and links inside the post.

What is the Excerpt for?

A short summary shown on the post cards in the Blog Posts block and your blog list. Write one or two sentences.

What are SEO Title and SEO Description?

They are the title and description Google may show for this post in search results. Leave them blank and Renta uses "Post title — Your business name" as the title, and the excerpt as the description.

How do I credit an author?

Type a name in Author; leave it blank to credit your business. Once there is a name, Author credential appears for a line such as "Owner · 15 years riding Southern Utah". A named author is shown under the title and also tells search engines a real person wrote the post.

How do I add a Book Now link inside a post?

In the editor open Insert and choose Booking button. It adds a "Check availability" link that opens the booking window. Edit the words as you like.

How do I edit or delete a post?

Click the post, or press Edit, change it and press Save. Delete asks "Delete this post?" and then removes it. To take a post off your site but keep it, set it back to Draft instead.

Who can write blog posts?

Owners and managers. The Staff role can open the Blog page and read it, but cannot save changes.

Why isn't my post showing on my website?

Check the status first: only Published shows, and a Scheduled post waits for its time (and up to 15 minutes more). If you expect it inside a Blog Posts block, remember that block only lists published posts, and the page holding the block must itself be published. See Website and Site Builder common questions.

Will Google find my blog posts?

Published posts are added to your sitemap and carry the SEO title, description and featured image you set. Until your account is live, your whole site tells search engines not to index it and the sitemap is empty; see Going live. For how you appear in Google see How you show up in Google Search.
